Hi there! I'm Lokyi, the recipe creator behind Lokyi's Food Studio. I create allergy-friendly, low-carb, and vegan recipes to help you find your own balanced, healthy diet — no matter what food trends come and go. Hong Kong-style food is my favorite and I love Japanese cuisine too, so you'll find plenty of Asian-inspired recipes here. When I discovered I have a gluten intolerance, I thought I'd have to give up all the food I love.

Life is full of serendipitous surprises. Spending so much time in the kitchen preparing "free-from" food for myself, I discovered a real passion for cooking and food photography — and that's how Lokyi's Food Studio was born.

Not sure where to start, so maybe I'll begin with my background (a bit boring, I know). I was born in Hong Kong and have lived here my whole life, but if I ever get the chance, I'd love to explore more of the world and other cultures. Apart from eating, I'm also a fitness and yoga lover. When friends text me and ask what I'm up to, 64.6% of the time I'd say "testing recipes" and the other 36.4% "working out."

Food is my life.

It took me a while to build a good relationship with food, because copying other people's diets just didn't work for me. I love veggies and try to include as many as I can in my daily meals. That's why I wanted to go vegan and tried it for a while. Unfortunately, my body soon had some "complaints" and my doctor advised me not to follow a strict vegan diet. So I shifted to plant-based but not fully vegan — which is why you'll find some non-vegan recipes here too!

My body wasn't happy with the way I was eating or living (can't really call it a lifestyle). In 2020, I started having all kinds of health issues — the kind you'd find if you searched "gluten intolerance" online. The good news: I could get rid of those problems by eliminating gluten from my diet. The bad news: I had to stop eating gluten. I was so frustrated at first, because I'm a HUGE bread, cake, and dumpling lover!

I didn't study at a culinary school, and my degree isn't food or health-related (I actually studied Arts at university). I needed to figure out a way to save my foodie life, so I kept doing "experiments" at home (thanks to the pandemic for the extra kitchen time). Of course there were countless failures, but when I got it right, I got it right! I'm not giving up my loves — breads, muffins, dumplings, steamed buns!

I created Lokyi's Food Studio in early 2021 to share my gluten-free, balanced recipes with all of you. Many of them are low-carb, vegan/vegetarian, and dairy-free! As a foodie, I want every foodie in the world to enjoy great food, regardless of dietary restrictions.
